About the CORNET H2020 project

Main priority of the Horizon 2020 CORNET project is to establish an Open Innovation Environment (OIE) scheme to coordinate the current efforts in the triangle of manufacturing, modelling and experimentation of Organic/Large Area Electronic (OLAE), with the scope to achieve widespread adoption of relevant protocols and standards and faster market uptake of innovations.

About the CORNET OIE Platform

The CORNET OIE Platform is an interactive web-based, well-organized and friendly environment that interconnects entities from the academic, research, industrial and business communities interested in the triangle of Manufacturing, Modeling and Experimentation of the Organic/Large Area Electronics (OLAE) and their commercialization.

Via the CORNET OIE Platform, the users are able to communicate with each other to solve common problems in the OLAE field, map the competences and infrastructure of their organization and notify the community about their current activities!

HOPE-A & LTFN will attend the event that focuses on Artificial Intelligence and Digital Innovation Hubs for European Industry beyond 2020.

The digitalization of the European Industry aims to help companies, researchers and public authorities to develop the new technologies. The main target is to create strategic partnerships and strong networks in order to boost investment opportunities. The new industrial revolution, driven by new-generation information technologies such as the Internet of Things (IoT), cloud computing, big data, and data analytics, robotics and 3D printing.

As our society is moving forward, we have to deal with even more complicated and demanding challenges, introduce, embrace and apply all the state-of-the-art applications that have a great impact in today’s and tomorrow’s life. Internet of Things and Artificial Intelligence are two of the hottest topics especially for the Industry of tomorrow. Industrial IoT improves efficiency, monitoring, and productivity! According to several types of research, the use of this technology in industrial settings could add $14.2tr. to the global economy of 2030!

Prof. S. Logothetidis Director of Nanotechnology Lab LTFN & President of HOPE-A Association attended the IoT Solutions World Congress, the largest IoT event in the world which held on 29-31 October in Barcelona in order to explore all the new trends, new ideas, solutions and get connected with industry stakeholders to establish new partnerships.

The Zero defect manufacturing workshop was held on 24 October in Brussels and brought together key stakeholders to shape the future landscape of European manufacturing.

During this workshop, Prof. S. Logothetidis Director of Nanotechnology Lab LTFN & President of HOPE-A Association gave a presentation as the coordinator of the EU project Smartline. The project aims to create intelligent and zero-defect manufacturing processes, in order to avoid failures, to increase the reliability and safety of manufacturing systems and reach the zero-defect quality of products.

LTFN, OET, and HOPE-A participated in the Workshop on “Smart Bioelectronic and Wearable Systems” that took place on 22-23 October in Brussels. This two - day EC workshop presented topics covering smart systems across Key Digital technologies. Great emphasis was given on bio-electronics, bio-photonics, and flexible and wearable electronics. This event also highlighted the role of Bioelectronics and Flexible & Wearable Electronics in the context of the Digital R&I Agenda, such as Edge Computing, Big Data, Artificial Intelligence, and Cybersecurity.

Dr. Ria Pechlivani, R&D&I manager of OET, presented a wearable kit with integrated flexible printed organic electronic products for energy, lighting and IoT interaction. Furthermore, in the properly formed exhibition area, running and completed EU-funded projects had the chance to present their results via demonstrators and visuals. LTFN is the coordinator and both OET and HOPE-A are partners of the consortium of the two EU projects Smartline and CORNET.

Smartline is the project that will create intelligent and zero-defect manufacturing processes by developing robust and non-destructive in-line metrology tools and process control platform to achieve the reliable and closed-loop manufacturing of Organic Electronic devices (OPVs and OLEDs for lighting) by Roll-to-Roll Printing and Organic Vapour Phase Deposition (OVPD) pilot lines. CORNET is the project that will develop a unique EU Open Innovation Environment (OIE) covering the triangle of manufacturing, modeling, and experimentation in order to optimize the Organic/Large Area Electronic (OE) materials, materials' behavior and nano-devices (OPVs, PPVs, OLEDs) manufacturing processes.
